Music is a booming business today. There are thousands of people in the world today who live off this multi-million dollar industry. Almost everyone in the world listens to music and appreciates it. It is also human nature to grow tired of the same music and want something new. As such this industry does not look like it is going to fade away any time soon. Actually, the industry has all the signs of growing larger and more profitable.
The music industry has continually grown since the early days when pre historic days lived in small communities. During these times each community made its own music and listened to its own music. Communities were hostile and there was hardly sharing of musical knowledge. However, with the growth of civilization and communities being able to live together in harmony and people from one community being able to interact with another community, music knowledge was able to be shared across the world.
This was a major step in the evolution of music since with this sharing of knowledge music was able to develop. New kinds of music genres developed and the sharing of knowledge in the making and playing of musical instruments also helped communities get to another level musically.
As knowledge increased and innovations increased, man was able to apply new knowledge in the music world. The music world gained a great deal when man was able to apply knowledge in technology in music. The biggest of these impacts was felt when man applied electrical knowledge in music.
Electrical knowledge was very instrumental in the evolution of music especially through sound amplification. Initially, musicians were very constrained in terms of the number of people they could perform for. Since their vocals and the sounds of their instruments could not carry very far, they were forced to entertain very few people at a time.
Sound amplification enabled them to entertain larger crowds. Initially tube amps were used for amplification. Later, solid state amps have also been developed to provide electric amplification. Tube amps are still being used and they are often preferred when one wants to produce high output without compromising on the quality of the sound. They are however very expensive to purchase and they are expensive to maintain. They are often bulky and not very portable.
Solid state amps are on the other hand more affordable and they are cheaper to maintain since they do not have a high fail rate. They are also smaller and easy to carry around. Solid state amps are more commonly used due to these factors and many people do not mind the slight difference in quality which is in most cases not easy to detect.
Sound amplification of vocals has been very influential in the music industry. A human voice can only go so far. Mic preamps have over been discovered to help amplify the sound to levels that are very high such that one can sing or address a crowd around a very large area.
